The topic of karma has always been one of my favourites.
During my time in the monastery I had many conversations with my guru about karma… his knowledge came from both his own experience and his direct link with the Divine.
One of the biggest revelations for me, was that karma is really not some mysterious force beyond our control administering rewards and punishment.
Actually, it’s nothing more than the consequences of our thoughts and subsequent actions.
True… it can get incredibly complex when it spans over an entire lifetime, or, if you subscribe to the idea of reincarnation, across multiple lifetimes. Then it can be hard to see the connections between what happens in our life and the beliefs and actions which may have precipitated those conditions.
But, ultimately, karma is something that we can, if we choose, take conscious control of.
The things that happen in your life, the people you end up with, and the situations you find yourself in, are a result of how you think, what you believe, and how you project that through your actions.
When you realise this, you can consciously create your karma. That means you can consciously create the life you want. You can surround yourself with the people that uplift you and help you to grow. You can change your situation, where you live, what your body is like, how much money you earn.
You just have to bear in mind that most of the time, creating your karma is a slow process. it can take months or years to turn your life around. You are like a ship on stormy seas… but with patience, persistence, and a little skill, you can change course. Slowly but surely you can change direction and travel to more beautiful and peaceful seas.
